Indonesia discordant 2% turnover of the herbal world


Ministry of Health recorded a turnover of traditional herbal medicine each year continues to increase, in 2006, the turnover of herbs remain in the range of 5 trillion rupiah rate, but this year the turnover is expected to reach 13 trillion herbs rupiah. Herbs from Indonesia is 2% of the turnover of herbal medicines in the world.

This subject was presented by theGeneral Director of Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Development Ministries of Health, Maura L Sitanggang after launching herbal village in Sukoharjo Central Java, Thursday (11/22/2012).

Maura said, survey from the Health Ministry found that herbal medicine is consumed by more than half of Indonesian people from various ages. Amount 95.6% of the costumer claimed the benefit of it.

Maura said, population trends are happy taking herbal medicine, should be caught as a business opportunity for farmers in Indonesia. It's because the raw material for making herbal medicine, most are imported from abroad.

Almost 60% of raw materials are imported. Our farmers must be able to capture these business opportunities, while Indonesia has the advantages of biodiversity, almost all medicinal plants can grow in our state, said Maura.
